Rehearsals

The West Seattle Big Band rehearses every Tuesday (with some exceptions), from 7:15 pm until 9:00 pm at the Grace Church in West Seattle. Grace Church is located at 10323 28th Ave SW, Seattle, WA 98146. There is plenty of parking in the lot immediately east of and in front of the Church. Rehearsal is in the main chapel which is accessed from the ramp and door on the north side of the building. The building is usually open by 7 pm. Please arrive in time to allow set-up and warm-up prior to rehearsal.

Charts

The West Seattle Big Band has an extensive library of jazz, swing and big band arrangements and continue to add new charts on a regular basis. We currently have more than 400 charts in our active rehearsal and performance folder and many more charts in reserve. Our music library is fully digitized, and most musicians use a tablet reader for rehearsals and performances.

Performances

The West Seattle Big Band may perform as many as 20 public concerts or private events a year. For most events, the band dress requirement is white shirt, black pants, socks and shoes. Ties are optional, but are encouraged depending on the event. Dress requirements may change depending on the specifics of an event.

Equipment

Musicians are responsible for providing their own instruments and necessary equipment (stands/lights) for rehearsals. The West Seattle Big Band provides an electric keyboard for both rehearsals and gigs, and has stand lights for gigs. The band has a full sound system, microphones, mic stands, mixer and wires for gigs, as well as chairs, trombone stools, and saxophone stand fronts. Musicians are responsible for providing their own music stands for both rehearsals and gigs, except for saxophones, who will use stand fronts provided by the band for gigs.
